Open Your Heart
Open your heart and everything else will follow. Your heart is such a sensitive place. It holds all of the love that you could ever imagine, but along side the love, it also holds all of the hurt. Camel pose or Ustrasana is a heart opening pose. In yoga people believe a lot of things about poses and energy channels. The heart Chakra is related to deep and unconditional love. This love can be for the self and/or for giving or receiving love from others. Often the heart Chakra is related to a love that cannot be explained in words. This is interesting to me because the heart is the what struggles when we are not ready to open our hearts fully.
It is now February, and I for one couldn’t be more grateful. January has always been a difficult month for me. It’s cold, it’s dark, and it’s lonely. It takes me to a place of isolation and my body just wants to rest. When our body is stressed one of the first things we do physically is to curl in to a fetal type position to protect and preserve our body and our energy. It’s almost like we need to protect it because we don’t have enough to give or for anyone to take.
Today I’m wanting to connect with my heart. During times of cold and darkness it’s easy to just see the cold and forget to see the warmth in so many places right around us. So today I’m focusing on everything that the universe is bringing to show me how much love there is around me. I’m focusing on students who have reached out to me after years of being away. They send words of gratitude with a reminder of how much warmth I was able to share with them even when they were going through difficult times. I appreciate people who come back to yoga after needing to take a break, but then realize how much our community means to them. I’m grateful to be able to give hugs to friends who are also going through difficult times. I recognize all of the important people who have come in to my life for so many different reasons.
